PORTLAND, OR - Playing Portland the second time in less than six months Scottish rockers We Were Promised Jetpacks return to rock the log walls of Doug Fir.

Quintet Adam Thompson, Michael Palmer, Sean Smith and Darren Lackie better known as We Were Promised Jetpacks nearly blew the sound system in Portland, Oregon once again with their powerhouse Scottish rock. After playing last years Music Fest Northwest with other Scots Frightened Rabbit, the band returned to perform with The Lonely Forrest and Bear Hands on the first of March.

In the fiery, dim lit basement of Doug Fir Lounge (Portland’s arguably most awesome venue) the four guys took to the stage opening with "Keeping Warm" off of there 2009 album These Four Walls.

Over a two minute instrumental build up left the audience antsy for the song to get rollin'. Guitarist Michael Palmer hunched over his guitar to the left of the stage with his hoodie falling around his curly hair. Drummer Darren situated in the back on his kit slammed on the drums as if it was already the encore. Bassist Sean stood calmly to the right plucking his string while lead singer Adam stood in front of his mic teetering slightly to the beat. Eyes closed and face calm, Adam seemed to be contemplating the energy that was to be let loose tonight. When the heart of the track arrived the guys exploded as always.

The rocking continued onto "Quiet Little Voices," a crowd chanting, clapping favorite. Fast paced from the get go the crowd was instantly mobilized. They followed with a song off the new EP The Last Place You'll Look titled "A Far Cry." Adam explained how this song was written especially for this tour. As Michael ran his hand up and down the strings of his guitar, a chaotic spacey sound echoed from the speakers. The song started out slow with Adam softly singing over guitar and bass. Half way in slamming drums joined and all four members began bouncing around the stage. During "It's Thunder and It's Lightning" Adam sang his heart out and to the average eye it seemed as if his voice was due to completely give out.

They finished up the set with “Roll Up Your Sleeves” and stated that they were “going to act like adults” and just admit to everyone the following songs would be the encore. The crowd cheered. They closed down the set with the most vocally powerful – “Short Bursts.” The performance began with a dancing drum beat and quick, punctual vocals. Slowly it transitioned into a madhouse of instruments. Michael's head may have rolled right off his neck as again he hunched over his guitar whipping his head to the beat. Singer Adam stood completely stiff in between bouts of screamed choruses. Pushing the microphone down with his hand he screamed the last lines at the top of his lungs. Soon the band broke out their last instrumental. Wildly playing and bouncing the energy and sound was big enough to drop the crowd to their knees. After a minute of this pure commotion the guys slowly let off their instruments and exited the stage. All while smiling humbly and throwing friendly thankful waves to the cheering crowd.
