Brooklyn DJ/Producer Scott Hardkiss recently released his debut full length original album Technicolor Dreamer. The album, which was released on Hardkiss’ own God Within, includes 11 tracks of electronic, hip-hop, dance music. The album features artists like San Francisco’s rising musician and producer J Bowman, CEO of Expansion Team media Alex Moulton and solo artist Stevvi Alexander.
From the get go the album feels like a non-stop dance party almost like a musical. Picture a TV set strip of rooms. The camera pans from room to room, in the first room you see a beach scene with smooth ocean sounds playing to the tune of waves. The camera moves left to another room. This time you see a slew of neon lights accompanying a disco ball with a few pompous dancers challenging one another to a dance off. Finally you move on to the next room where you’re on looking a scene from outer-space. This is the kind of feel Technicolor Dreamer gives. No one song is alike. But each song brings its own groovy quality to the table. Perfect for any mood.
A spacey intro oozes you right Technicolor Dreamer. The track “Beat Freak” hails some TalkBox vocals under upbeat disco sounds. Something you might expect to play at an old roller-disco. The album’s title track has a bit more soul. With concentrated male vocals, this song’s energy lives up to its album title status. For softer sounds listen to “It Comes From Up Above.” The bubbly beats and smooth female vocals make this song a calming ballad of quirky electronic tones. “What We Got” blends deep monotone vocals with a gospel group of vocals straight from Sunday’s sermon.
If what you are looking for is a big package of eclectic energy-laden electro tracks, and are a fan of Hardkiss’ previous works, his original material will ice the cake. After years of waiting for a full work of originals Technicolor Dreamer shows off Hardkiss’ true talent for production and art.
